So my little Kaitlyn is working on crawling lately. She’s just about 8 months now, and she really wants to be able to chase her big sister (and her parents) around the house. About two weeks ago, she started getting up on her hands and knees and rocking, and sort of singing to herself as she rocked. She also started realizing that she could push off with her feet and move a little bit forward. It’s so much fun to watch all the little things she has to figure out as she keeps getting better. Over the last few days, she’s learned how to scooch herself forward doing the belly crawl. It’s so impressive to watch a little baby do that, thinking of the upper body strength she needs to pull herself forward. Katie’s to the point now where, if you put a toy several inches out of her reach in front of her, she’ll belly crawl forward to get it. I think my favorite moment so far, though, has been a couple nights ago, when she was fussing, and I sat down on the floor close to her. She saw me, and started crawling to me. It was so sweet. She really wanted to be with mom, and she knew just how to get there. Of course, now we have to do some more babyproofing around the house. And little babies should never learn to crawl while they have a cold – I’m pretty sure our carpet is covered in snot now. (I’m sure you wanted to know that, didn’t you? Don’t worry, I promise to vacuum once she’s better.)
