with Manny Ramirez. We are, of course, avid Dodgers fans in this house. But I admit to some misgivings when I heard the Dodgers had traded for Manny. First, there’s the silly stunts he pulled from time to time in Boston. Then, I was afraid the Dodgers were going to trade away some of their good young position players in order to get him. Which honestly wouldn’t have made much sense to me, to pick up a good player for just a few months of the season who may or may not sign with L.A. at the expense of next season. Once I heard the actual details of the trade and my fears of losing good players like Ethier or Kemp were assuaged, I started to look forward to Manny’s L.A. debut.
And man, has he delivered! I know it’s only been a few days, but consider it a HUGE improvement over Andruw Jones, poor guy. (I don’t know what’s wrong with him, but something obviously is.) Anyone who can hit .615 with 2 homers and 5 RBIs in his first 3 games definitely wins a spot in the hearts of Dodger fans everywhere. Plus, with such a good player around, everyone else is playing better, and getting a lot better pitches to hit. Now, if he can just keep hitting pretty well for the rest of the season, the Dodgers might have a decent shot at the playoffs!
